This is one of the most enjoyable announcements I’ve ever written, and I’m extremely proud and humbled to share this update with you.
There have been a ton of milestones over the past five years, beginning with the founding of FireHost in 2009 and the launch of our Secure Cloud service in 2011. As Founder and CEO, I have worn many hats and loved every one of them – coding, support, sales, HR, finance, marketing, psychologist, teacher, and, of course, janitor. I wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything in the world.
As you grow a business, you grow with it, and in doing so learn what you do best. You cross paths with people who can contribute significantly to the company’s growth. And, in turn, you learn where you can contribute the most. For me, my passion has always been to develop amazing technology that the world desperately needs. This requires product vision and development skills. I am passionate about innovation, building technology, growing a team, talking to customers and waving our flag in the market.
Last year, Jim Lewandowski joined the board of directors at FireHost. His impact was immediate and his domain expertise exceptionally relevant with a background at Rackspace, McAfee, Yahoo!, IBM, and BMC, among others. The chemistry fit was clear. Jim shares my passion for building a strong, sustainable culture and is strongest in the areas where I’m weakest.
The decision was clear. Recruit Jim to be the CEO of FireHost and orient my responsibilities and focus toward accelerating our innovation.
Well, I’m happy to announce that this has happened. As of today, Jim Lewandowski takes the helm as CEO of FireHost, and I will be assuming the role of CTO. This is not a decision that I took lightly, however I could not feel more certain that this is the best decision for FireHost, and for me. FireHost gets an amazing leader who has “seen the movie” many times and who culturally connects with the team. I get to do what I do best and, frankly, what I love to do.
To FireHost employees: As it implies with our ego tag hanging when you walk into our office, “check your ego at the door.” This leadership change should be yet another example that what we’re doing together is above any single individual. Support Jim as you have me, and he will work tirelessly to support you and all the incredible things you’ve done and will continue to do. What you’ve done for FireHost and for me over the years has been nothing short of incredible. I look forward to continuing to be inspired by you.
To FireHost customers: Thank you for your continued support of our business. The trust you’ve given FireHost means the world to us, and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
To FireHost competitors: [fill in this blank with what concerns you about FireHost, then multiply it]
Join me in welcoming Jim Lewandowski as the CEO of FireHost!
